Words of LOVE

Many of us would speak on love.. about love… God’s love.  We will bold, highlight, increase font size on this powerful four lettered word… a word that can lift up and the very word that can murder a soul.

Speak the truth in love..  That’s God’s commandment to us..  Godly love centres around the other person’s welfare, the other person’s build up.. It may even include distancing so that the person learns to lean on God or receive healing.

Love in the flesh is centred around ‘me’… and the ‘truth’ is actually concealed to promote myself – look at what I’m doing… give me a pat on the back.. give me the credit… I know what is right and if you don’t then you can be left behind and I so don’t care is what goes on silently within while speaking words of love and carrying out acts of love..   Acts of the fleshly nature accompany such love – arrogance, selfish ambition, envy etc.. echo in the ‘love’ statements.

God sees beyond our appearances of our words, our actions… He sees what motivates us.. what spurs us on, what’s really going on in our hearts and why we show ‘love’!  Godly love builds up not tears down, it wishes well and encourages to steer on the narrow path, but it wouldn’t be forceful, humiliate, belittle, control.

We can twist Scripture to promote self and selfishness.. and we can twist Scripture to make ourselves come across as ‘bigger’ people.. We can fool others but we can’t fool God..

At the end of the day, without sincere love we are nothing.. And if our love isn’t sincere, if it’s driven by self, then we need to truly ask God where we stand with Him.. If we are in an intimate relationship with God, we love with God’s love, not our own.  No, no, that doesn’t mean we become push overs dancing to the whims and fancies of everyone around us… It means seeking God’s discernment and wisdom in every situation to know how God would want the person to be loved for the welfare of the person and for God’s glory.

Love is patient,

love is kind.

It does not envy,

it does not boast,

it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others,

it is not self-seeking,

it is not easily angered,

it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails – 1 Corinthians 13:4,5
