Imagine that scenario when you have just woken up, lying in bed and your eyes haven’t yet got accustomed to the light. The sun decides to show its magnificence through the windows delighting in the sheer curtains or the overlooking of the curtains from being drawn. Goodness it takes a while to get back to your usual sight doesn’t it. Some would just close their eyes to adjust while others would find solace from their comforters (duvets) to shield them!
Then consider this next scenario and bear with me as I ramble on with this before reflecting:
Goodness, I’m trying to control myself from endlessly clicking pictures of the evening skies, the sunset, the ocean view, the competing ascending moon often what seems to be ahead of its schedule way before the sun has settled.. Often I get so carried away with gazing or trying to take photos that I tend to look a little bit too long at the sun. I then have to close my eyes and do a little dance (all the while hoping that no one else is watching me from the road or nearby buildings), as I try to get my focus back, to get my vision back. This concept has always fascinated me and I never got around to reflecting on it.
One thing I have mentioned a lot in my blog posts is though how we get somewhat ‘blinded’ and dazzled when we see bright light.
The first scenario – of having just woken up – is an apt analogy when someone who has been indulging in the deeds of darkness is suddenly ‘exposed’. Sometimes they aren’t exposed but when they are subject to the bright light they immediately RETRACT and HIDE in fear of being exposed… It may be a ‘sub conscious’ thing but it happens as simply put LIGHT and DARKNESS cannot co-exist. There are demons masquerading as angels of light – so these people when they see the children of God who are the light to the world who are not afraid of transparency, those who are home to demons cannot handle it.
Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. – John 3:19
So yes, such people will RUN for cover AWAY from the LIGHT. These people can’t stand those who are walking in the light.
However, those who are led by the Spirit of God are indeed children of God. Such people would LOOK to God and focus on HIM. Jesus says,
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life – John 8:12.
Just as our eyes are dazzled when we gaze at the sun that we can’t see anything else but that brightness, when we focus on God who is LIGHT, our visions will get blanked out, and REPLACED by His vision. We then will not be able to walk in darkness as now our desires and our visions are replaced by what He desires for us and through us:
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light – Romans 13:12
As we gaze on HIM, and filled with HIS vision and are consumed by His light and His love, we also remember the Scripures:
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.” – Ephesians 5:8-16
Where do you stand today?
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace – Helen Lemmel
Will resolve to place your GAZE upon Jesus and let His vision take over yours?
