When I turned 21 – yes, that wasn’t that long ago I agree… 😉 – I made a key shaped cake and also got a key shaped pendant done in gold similar to the featured image but the “hole” of the key was heart shaped with my initial. One day a friend asked me what the key was for! My response to him? That’s the key to my heart and I’m safe guarding it!!
I have been thinking of keys lately and that memory just popped into my head! It just seems as if though everywhere I turn, I see something about keys. (I started this draft a long time ago but KEY seems to be the KEY word as of late!). Over the years many prophetic words have been spoken over me about God giving me the ‘master’ key… Of course God doesn’t reveal everything all at once so I’m still waiting for more revelation of details!
Small things perhaps but hold a lot of value – door keys, car keys, locker keys the list goes on! You lose the key and you are in trouble! And yes we LOCK the things that are valuable to us – including our hearts too so intruders don’t help themselves to what doesn’t belong to them and what is not meant to be shared… but sometimes safeguarded to help us ‘hide’.

We can try all the wrong keys to open the right door – and they still will not open it. We may get fed up with a door that refuses to open in front of us – a door we know is meant for us. It seems heavy but the right key even if it’s very little can open it. When God is in it, no one can oppose it.
There are times when God takes us to a door, the door that opens to the narrow path that leads us along His perfect plan for our lives. He places the key in our hands and instead of opening it, we LOCK IT FIRMLY and block His blessings for our lives. The wrong attitude of fear or selfish desires become the key of disobedience. We may justify it to God and others with a million of one reasons but they are excuses to God!
The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out – Proverbs 20:5
God gives us discernment to draw out the purposes of a person’s heart. Moreover, He sees beyond the appearances and sees the motives of our hearts and why we do what with the key He is giving to us.
On the other hand, God says
I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open – Isaiah 22:22
These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open – Revelation 3:7
The Rhema word from this leaps out – and what He intends for our lives no one can stop other than our own disobedience. However, even that, He knows who is faithful to Him and long to surrender their wills to Him despite their fears and will turn around their hearts like streams of water! The KEY that God gives is KEY to His perfect plan and is of POWER and AUTHORITY!
He (the Lord) will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure – Isaiah 33:6
A key to the treasure of salvation, wisdom and knowledge is having the fear of the Lord. It’s not about doing something out of a fear of punishment and negative consequences but out of a reverent fear where we stand in awe, and that we know He knows best and it’s driven by love.
When that love is replaced by ‘law’ and ‘knowledge’ it becomes a hindrance instead and thus Jesus REBUKES the religious leaders who do so:
Woe to you experts in the law, because you have taken away the key to knowledge. You yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who were entering.- Luke 11:52/
Remember though not all open doors are the RIGHT doors and not all the closed doors are the wrong ones either ( Open Doors? Closed Doors? ). Besides remember Revolving Doors exist too! In every situation we need to discern from God which door is which, and then wait upon Him for the RIGHT KEY to the RIGHT DOOR at the RIGHT TIME. He makes ALL things beautiful in HIS time.
A seed is sown into the soil.. the step of sowing the seed has been taken yet it does take time before the seed sprouts, takes root, grows, matures and bears fruit which is then beneficial! Imagine in the time that the seed has died to itself and sprouted, and we went looking for the seed? It’s not going to be there obviously! Yet that seed died to itself and in time, in the right time, gave results! This is how life is. Sometimes the door is shown but it takes time for the key to be given into our hands before it can be unlocked and walked through. It takes a time of waiting in faith and expectation where the Lord tests us whether we are going see with our natural eyes and let the enemy blind us with despair or whether we are going to see with our spiritual eyes and know that the key will be given.
During this time let’s wait on God and not try to pry the right door open with the wrong key nor take the wrong keys and open the wrong doors either. Let’s ask God for discernment to know what the right key is and pray that we will not let our fears or selfish ambitions lock the right door with the right key and miss out on God’s perfect plan for us which also means for His Kingdom too!
May God show us the right doors and the right keys to it. May we use the key to open the door and not lock it. May we not grow weary and have faith that it only takes a small key to open a heavy door!!
May we hold the keys of His Word and of faith along with the putting on of God’s armour ALWAYS with the key of the fear of the LORD to the greatest treasure of salvation, wisdom and knowledge!
