Favour Springing Out of Fervour

What comes to your mind when you think of a resort?  Straight off my mind, I think of a place to chill, a place of relaxation, rejuvenation, retreat… a place to bond with loved ones…  And of course the image of a pool pops into my head too!  That of course gives me a sense of refreshing, calmness, cooling… moreover in these ultra hot days here in Sri Lanka.

Are you wondering what I’m rambling on about?  hehehe..  Well, it was another vision I saw about a week ago.  A resort environment from an elevated angle… The details were a bit blurry.  I could make out the cabana huts positioned along the beach on the other side of the pool.  However, it was the pool, in it’s bright turquoise blue hue that distinctly stood out and caught my attention.  As I saw the vision, I heard the words “Favour out of Fervour”.

Let’s take a look at the word “FERVOUR”… A search on Google gave the following definition and synomyns.. Read through the list:

Fervour:  intense and passionate feeling.
“he talked with all the fervour of a new convert”
synonyms: passion, ardour, intensity, zeal, vehemence, vehemency, emotion, warmth, sincerity, earnestness, avidness, avidity, eagerness, keenness, enthusiasm, excitement, animation, vigour, energy, fire, fieriness, heat, spirit, zest, appetite, hunger, urgency; More
  •  What do you feel fervour for?  For what do you have an “intense and passionate feeling”?

Someone newly in love, will be so excited that they can’t stop talking about the one they love.  Likewise, if we have achieved something we have desired or longed for or in the process of it, we cannot but share our enthusiasm.  In the Bible, we read of Apollos…

He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John – Acts 18:25

  • Are we able to speak with great fervour about our Lord Jesus Christ and the way of God or have we lost our first love?
  • Do we have great fervour for Him?
 We are told:
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality – Romans 12:11:13
The list of what we would do if we keep our spiritual fervour starts in the verses above and continues on in that passage.  Having fervour for Him is to hunger and thirst for Him… Jesus tells us:
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,  for they will be filled – Matthew 5:6
The Greek word used for righteousness means: equity (of character or act); specifically (Christian) justification:—righteousness.  Are we not called to seek FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness?  Are we not assured that if we do so, our needs will be met?  Do we hunger and thirst, do we have fervour for His Kingdom and for His righteousness?
If so, Jesus assures us then that we will be filled, that we are blessed?
Indeed, it is not because of our works, that God loves us.  No matter what, His arms are open for us to run into His embrace if only we would run into them.  However,
His favour will for sure spring out of our fervour for Him!
There will be a time of trial and testing..  to see whether we would indeed have fervour for Him regardless of favour or not..  We read of Satan wanting to test Job and God boldly allowing or rather giving permission to Satan to do so.  God knew that Job would pass the test with flying colours.  Likewise, favour followed those who yielded to God despite the odds, despite things seeming to go the opposite direction, despite oppression…
He mocks proud mockers but shows favour to the humble and oppressed – Proverbs 3:34
Whether you and I have fervour for God, He surely does have it for us…

Again the word of the Lord of hosts came, saying, “Thus says the Lord of hosts:

‘I am zealous for Zion with great zeal;
With great fervor I am zealous for her.’

“Thus says the Lord‘I will return to Zion, And dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth,  The Mountain of the Lord of hosts, The Holy Mountain.’ – – Zechariah 8:1-3 (NKJV)

The LORD had asked His people to “administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’ But they refused to pay attention”.  Hence God scattered them with a whirlwind to different nations,, their pleasant land was made desolate (Zechariah 7).  However, then the LORD promises to bless Jerusalem in Zechariah 8.  He is zealous for us with great fervour.  He is patient with us and doesn’t want any of us to perish but instead wants everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
  • Are we able to reciprocate the fervour with which God is zealous for us?  Of course, we can’t reciprocate in the same measure but are we willing to have fervour for Him, to find Him, to find “life”?

For those who find me find life and receive favour from the Lord – Proverbs 8:35

  • Are you ready to embrace the favour that springs out of fervour?  Are you ready to be led to green pastures next to still waters?  Are you ready for restoration and relaxation and revival of your life, to be alive for Him?  Are you ready to embrace in your spiritual life whatever a resort signifies to you?

Out of fervour for Him, favour will eventually – sooner or later – spring out!  Be assured and encouraged my dear brothers and sisters as we persevere in our walk with Him 🙂

God bless you!
