Into the darkness

A few days ago I saw a vision of a lot of people going through a long tunnel,  This tunnel consisted of many adjoining caves .. The people hurried away from the opening into deeper darkness… going further and further away.
There were a handful of people however who stood at the entrance looking to the opening above them. They were astonished.. standing in awe of what they then saw. A bright light dazzled them.  It was so bright it seemed white.. Blinding white. Suddenly Jesus appeared and stretched out His hand offering to lift them up. Those who were willing were brought out and then the opening was closed.
Those who had gone deep into the tunnels missed out,  They were so focused on scurrying about that they missed out on all the events that unfolded.  The bright light, the appearance of Jesus, the grasping of His hand and being lifted out were not to be their experiences.
God is warning us to watch out where our priorities lie.  Where are we scurrying about and what for?  Is our heart set on the darkness… and getting roped in deeper and deeper into what we are doing?
We could be drawn deeper into the deeds of darkness in various ways… Our fleshly desires could be enticing us or the enemy could be tempting us through the vices of this world or even using the people we love.
For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want – Galatians 5:17
Or the enemy could be enticing us…
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms – Ephesians 6:12
Or the enemy could be drawing us away from the narrow path of God using those we love.  Satan attempted to use Peter to distract Jesus.  This is how Jesus responded:
Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan!
You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” – Matthew 16:23
It is not only evil or what we consider bad that could be drawing us away from heeding to God’s voice.  We could be so engrossed in being busy even with the “good” things, the daily things of life that we do not pause to gaze at Jesus.
We need to remember whatever GOOD we do without GOD (take away GOD from GOOD) leaves us with a O – nothing!
It could even be ministry that keeps us scurrying about…

It is possible to be so active in the service of Christ as to forget to love him – P. T. Forsyth

We need to be aware of these situations.. God guides us nonetheless.  To overcome the battle between our flesh and spirit, we are told to:
Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh – Galatians 5:16
To overcome the darts of the enemy, we are told to:
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour – 1 Peter 5:8
and to
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes – Ephesians 6:11
Anything that takes us away from gazing at Jesus pulls us into the darkness.  Where do you stand today?  Are you going to be gazing at Jesus and being led by Him that you could hold onto His hand reaching out to lift you into His bright presence? Or are you going to so caught up that you would see the stone placed to close you out and not even know about it?  Even if you consider yourself a “Christian” let alone one who is active in the service of Christ, you could actually be scurrying into darkness.
The choices are yours and the consequences too.  This is a time of shaking… the goats and the sheep.
