Young n Old

Age – a physical number indicating how long one has lived on earth!  Hairs begin to grey…

The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old – Proverbs 20:29

(although pre-mature greying exists while some older people don’t grey easily while some older people are much stronger than the younger ones as sadly the life of many young ones today is centred around the computer and video games!)

People begin to develop health problems such as diabetes, cholesterol, pressure as they get older.  Past 40, more often than not, your eye sight (not to see far away but to read!) gets affected.  You start losing your memory! And for those of you ‘young ones’ smirking, here’s a fact that will wipe it right off your face 😛 People begin to lose their memories from the age of 27 or so!! Ha ha ha – I just couldn’t resist throwing that in!

The body is created to deteriorate… We aren’t intended to live forever in the body! It’s as simple as that.  So it’s utmost craziness, when people cry out for healing for every ailment of the body – which is natural as it is part of God’s will.  Worse, is claiming “by His stripes we are healed” in quoting the scripture below.

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed – Isaiah 53:5

That is so out of context…  The healing mentioned in this verse is about spiritual healing.  Mankind faced spiritual death when Adam & Eve disobeyed God’s commandment in the Garden of Eden.  When sin enters, relationships are hindered or broken.  The death that Satan was referring to while tempting Eve was the spiritual death… Our relationship with God was affected.  However, the work of Jesus Christ on the cross bridged the gap and paved the way to intimacy with our Heavenly Father.  Jesus is indeed THE truth, the way and the life… We have everlasting life through Him if only we would repent, invite Jesus into our hearts, make Him the Lord of our lives and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit renewing our broken intimacy with our triune God.

When we pray we ought to pray like Jesus and Paul… Despite the suffering that lay ahead of Jesus, He cried out to the Father, “Take this cup of suffering away from me… Yet not my will but yours be done!”  Paul asked God to remove the thorn in his flesh for which God assured Him that His grace was sufficient for him!  Young or old, strong or weak, sick or healed – there is worth!  A different type of worth or ability perhaps, but nonetheless important.  We may ask for healing, as long as we are prepared to God’s will in our lives.  If we don’t receive healing and die a physical death – wow, what a blessing as we can dwell in God’s midst without any more sufferings or tears!

Yet, the Bible refers to the righteous, whose trust is in Him, that

They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green – Psalm 92:14

If God wants – to fulfil His plan and purpose and promises – He can turn old age around to youthfulness!  He can turn around the biological clock that had stopped like He had done with Sarah who was beyond her age.  He can allow people to die – like with Jesus and with Lazarus – only to see them brought to life again…  He can heal any disease whether the cause is physical or spiritual or emotional – we see many occurrences of that in the Bible.  Jesus healed and has given us the power to heal too.

The state of our bodies nor our gender matters in God’s scheme of things!  What God wills, He will see that it comes to pass if only we would be surrendered vessels.

… I will pour out my Spirit on all people.

Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. – Joel 2:28-29

Take heart today, wherever you are at.  Focus on His divine power…

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness

through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness – 2 Peter 1:3

And remember, FAITH is not in what we see but rather in the UNSEEN… Don’t place your trust in princes or in horses and chariots or your own stamina and personalities…

Put your hand in the hand of the one who created you!!
