Distorted Reflection?

I was seated at a friend’s place alone, and talking to God.  It was a period of uncertainty.  I could hear Him tell me, “Be Still”.  Simple yet how so difficult to obey!  During this conversation with God, the surface of the indoor pond caught my attention.  The water was still boasting the reflection of the windows nearby.  Suddenly a fish jumped – stirring and splashing the water.  The reflection was now disturbed and in one sense not ‘true’ anymore.  Had the positioning of the original windows changed?  No!   I did ask God then and there, what the significance of this observation was!  (It just has become a step of my dialog with God – observing something and asking Him to teach through it!)

It just dawned on me now (alright a tube light, or rather the timing for illumination was now and not earlier!), a week later that we too often portray a ‘false picture’.  When we are still, and yielded to God, our lives reflect Him.  However when we are stirred with the interruptions of the world and our lives are filled with anxiety, worry, fears, anger, bitterness, selfish ambition, greed etc we are now a distorted reflection of God!  God remains the same, but His image is reflected incorrectly through our disturbed lives.

“Be still before the LORD…  Do not fret – it leads only to evil” – Psalm 37:7-8

Of course, it goes without saying that we will be imperfect as long as we are here on earth and thus our lives will not be a perfect reflection of God.  However, to what extent are we distorting the reflection?

The Psalmist writes, “Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame” (Psalm 34:5).  What story does your face tell today?  Is it a face that looks to Him and is radiant?

“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit”

– 2 Corinthians 3:18.

What is holding you back today from yielding to God?

“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You” – Isaiah 26:3

Where is your trust today?

Is your mind steadfast at this moment and thus like the still waters mirroring His Image?

What kinds of fish are jumping in your life to stir the calmness, distorting the true reflection?
